The Tumwater softball team outmatched Rochester at home Friday, holding on through a low-scoring affair to complete the shutout 2-0.
Tumwater’s Ella Ferguson came out with an impressive showing on the mound, only allowing one hit — to Rochester’s Mckenna Vassar — and serving up eleven punch outs in seven innings.
An early pitchers’ duel held the game scoreless through five and a half innings, with Layna Demers also throwing a couple shutout innings including five strikeouts of her own.
Lexi Peller wiped the zero off the scoreboard for the T-Birds in the bottom of the fifth inning by sending a line drive to center field with a runner in scoring position. Kylee Hernandez tacked on another run later in the inning by finding a gap in the outfield for an RBI double. Megan Barret went 2 for 3 in the heart of Tumwaters lineup.

Tumwater is set to take on Centralia Monday at home. The Warriors look to bounce back against Black Hills on Monday at home.
