With 14 overall event wins across both the boys and girls teams at Tiger Stadium in Centralia, the Tumwater boys and girls track teams both earned team titles at the 2A Evergreen Conference Championships Thursday and Friday afternoon.
The Tumwater boys finished with 188.5 points, with W.F. West second with 108.5. On the girls side, the T-Birds finished with 172 points, with the Bearcats again second with 99.
Jayden Thomas was a double winner for the Thunderbirds, winning both the 110m hurdles (15.71) and the high jump with a 6 foot, 2 inch clearance. Christian Schlecht took home the win in the 200m in 22.71, and Reis Howell won the 800m in 2:10.44 to round out Tumwater boys individual winners.
The T-Bird boys also won the 4x100-meter relay in 44.77, made up of Payton LaGuerre, Blake Kirkpatrick, David Malroy, and Schlecht. For the girls, Ava Jones won the 100 (12.86) and the 200m (26.24). Annabelle Clapp was also a double winner in the 400m (59.85) and 800m (2:27.85).
Olivia Ahrens won the 1600m (5:35.43), and Kennedy Reidl won the 100m hurdles in 17.54.
The T-Bird girls also swept the relay events, with the 4x100 made up of Mariah Jett, Rhylee Beebe, Reese Heryford, and Cassidy Hedin winning in 51.77. Clapp, Hedin, Heryford, and Jones won the 4x200 in 1:46.52, and Heryford, Hedin, Jones, and Clapp won the 4x400 in 4:13.50.
The Bearcats, whose boys and girls both finished second as a team with mostly underclassmen, finished with seven league champions.
Lucas Hoff continued his strong year in field events, winning the pole vault by two feet with a 14 foot clearance, and the javelin with a 142 foot, 10 inch throw. Brian Anouma had a standout day in the horizontal jumps, leaping 20 feet, 3 inches for a league title in the long jump and winning the triple jump with a personal best 39 feet, 4.5 inches.
On the girls side, Emily Mallonee won the 300-meter hurdles in 51.36, Amanda Bennett won the javelin (124 feet, 8 inches), and Shelby Hazlett won the pole vault title (8 feet).
Overall, the Bearcats advanced 21 athletes to districts, with 13 being underclassmen.
W.F. West athletes moving on included: Lauren Kelley, Kaija Economou, Bennett, Mallonee, Wyatt Rogerson, Hayden Niemi, Kade Mohoric, Emmett Imboden, Hoff, Anouma, Alina Jackson, Hazlett, Mercedes Ricks, Fox Rogerson, Ryan Hilliker, Elijah Annonen, Leslie Morales, Caleb Busse, Grace Simpson, Morgan Rogerson, and Alana Lawson.
Rochester’s lone wins came from Ashton Rodriguez on the boys side in the 100-meter dash, winning in 11.24, and Emily Weddle on the girls side taking home a win in the shot put (34 feet, 8 inches).
The only other locals to bring home a league title were Black Hills’ Kennedy Imsland in the girls discus (107 feet, 4 inches), and Olivia Cammack in the long jump (15 feet, 2 inches).
Centralia’s best result came from junior Ruth Gonzalez, who finished third in the 3,200 (15:14.08), while Irais Carrillo-Montenegro was fourth in 100-meter hurdles (19.14). On the boys’ side, Devin Harrison was fourth in the 1,600 (10:26.40) and fifth in the 1,600 (4:39.10). Adam Leon was fourth in the 800 (2:18.67), and William Stineoway was fourth in the discus (131 feet, 4 inches).
