Track Roundup: PRs in Abundance at Chehalis Meet

On a bright and sunny day in Chehalis, Shelton and Tumwater came to town to participate in a three-team meet against W.F. West Wednesday afternoon, with personal bests galore. 

The Thunderbirds narrowly took home the win as a team on the boys side, edging W.F. West 65-59, with the girls taking an overwhelming 82 points to beat W.F. West by 28. 

For the boys, Blake Kirkpatrick was a double individual winner, winning the 100 meters in 11.52 and the 200m in 23.44. Reid Crumley won the 300-meter hurdles in 43.82, and Crumley and Kirkpatrick were the first two legs of the winning 4x400-meter relay, with Reis Howell and John Hoffer running the final two legs, winning in 3:41.59. 

Makhi Odoms was the final boys winner for Tumwater, winning the long jump (21 feet, 10.5 inches) and the triple jump (42 feet, 11.5 inches). 

The W.F. West boys were led by a standout day on the field by junior Lucas Hoff, who won the javelin (151 feet, 10 inches), and recorded personal bests in the high jump, clearing 6 feet, 1 inch, and the pole vault with a 14 foot clearance. 

Other boys winners included Jaysen Miles in the 3200 (11:15.15) and Emmett Imboden in the 110m hurdles (17.00). 

On the girls side, Tumwater was led by a couple of winners, with Ava Jones winning the 100m (12.67) and the 200m (26.64). Jones also anchored the 4x100-meter relay with Annabelle Clapp, Cassidy Hedin, and Reese Heryford to a win in 50.32. 

Other Tumwater winners for the girls included Selly Beyene in the 800m (2:34.64), Olivia Ahrens in the 1600m (5:49.23), Jesse Brumbaugh in the 3200 (13:49.18), McKayla Clary in the shot put (31 feet, 4.5 inches), and Kaila Fisher in the triple jump (31 feet). 

W.F. West also had several wins on the girls side, Grace Simpson won the 400m (1:13.23), Emily Mallonee won the 300m hurdles in 52.70, Amanda Bennett won the javelin (112 feet, 2 inches), Shelby Hazlett won the pole vault (7 feet, 6 inches), and Leslie Morales won the long jump (14 feet, 7 inches). 

The Bearcats also won a pair of relays, with the 4x200-meter relay consisting of Lauren Kelly, Kaija Economou, Mallonee and Bennett running a 1:54.94, and the 4x400-meter relay of Economou, Wyatt Rogerson, Mallonee, and Bennett running a 4:42.49. 



Wolves Girls Take Road Meet Against Aberdeen

Winning just about every event on the girls side, the Black Hills track and field teams split its meet with Aberdeen in Grays Harbor Wednesday afternoon, with the girls taking the win while the boys fell. 

Olivia Cammack was a triple individual winner, taking the 100 meters (13.90), the long jump (14 feet, 5.75 inches), and the triple jump (31 feet, 1.5 inches). Zaniah Robinson also took home a pair of wins in the 200 meters (30.13) and the 400m (1:09.33). 

Elsewhere on the track, Lilly Kincaid won the 800 (2:38.40), Makenna Legault won the 1600 (6:20.33), Emma Hughes won the 3200m (15:26.61), and Barrette McKissick won the 100m hurdles (20.55). 

The Wolves girls also swept the relays, taking the 4x100-meter relay in 57.93 (Cammack, McKissick, Lia Crecelius, Ella Jarmin), the 4x200-meter relay in 2:02.96 (Loralei Upton, Hailey Tinsley, Jarmin, and Robinson), and the 4x400-meter relay in 5:02.05 (Upton, Kirsten Beaulieu, Legault, and Kincaid). 

On the field, Ashley Harris won the shot put (34 feet, 7 inches), Kennedy Imsland won the discus (107 feet, 5 inches), and Claire Johnson won the javelin (89 feet, 3 inches). 

On the boys side, Mason Burke won the 3200 (11:02.52), Ezra Harris won the javelin (108 feet, 6 inches), and Travis Carson won the triple jump (38 feet, 2 inches). 

Liam Wall also recorded a personal best in the discus to take second, tossing it 151 feet, 10.5 inches.
