Top-Heavy Attack Leads Rochester

The Rochester baseball team crossed Scatter Creek and kept going for a non-league contest Thursday, and came back home with a five-inning win, 15-4 over Yelm.

The top of the Warriors’ order of Mason Ubias, Tate Quarnstrom, and Braden Hartley combined to go 8 for 12 as a trio, complete with two doubles — both by Hartley — nine RBIs, and eight runs scored. The rest of the lineup went for two knocks.

Things started out slowly for Rochester, with the first eight batters of the game going down in order. With two outs in the third, though, Ethan Rodriguez drew a walk, giving the guests a spark.

Ubias singled, Quarnstrom knocked Rodriguez home, and Hartley doubled in two more, before scoring on a passed ball to make it 4-2.

Six more runs came in in the fourth, and Rochester scored five more in the fifth.

The leading trio did it on the mound as well for the Warriors, with Quarnstrom going four innings and allowing two runs, and Ubias seeing the game out in the fifth.

Rochester is currently slated to get a bigger stage for its next matchup, facing Tenino in a rivalry game at Cheney Stadium, the home of the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers.
