Toledo track and field team to host all-you-can-eat fundraiser breakfast

Posted

Chef Martin Huffman — also known as Toledo High School Principal Martin Huffman — will return on Saturday, Feb. 1, for a fundraiser in support of Toledo’s track and field team.

The all-you-can-eat sausage, biscuits and gravy breakfast will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. in the Toledo High School Commons.

All proceeds go to support Toledo’s track and field team. Funds will be used for equipment, entry fees to invitationals and day-to day needs of the program.

There’s another bonus for those who choose to attend and pay the $5 cost of breakfast: Members of the Toledo track team will wipe down and vacuum vehicles for attendees.

The Toledo track team currently includes about 40 students. The team won its first district championship in 2023, doing so as one of only a handful of schools in the state without a paved track.

While the Feb. 1 breakfast won’t raise money to replace the district’s dirt track, it is something the athletes look forward to providing each year.

“We kind of look at this breakfast as a service to the community,” said Toledo Track Coach Don Schaplow. “Kind of a way to give back. Our track team loves to do it.”

As for the track, Schaplow said he is still hopeful that funding will become available for a replacement in the future.
