The Toledo School District will hold a celebration of life for Miguel Soto on Saturday, Aug. 13.

The 20-year-old Toledo High School graduate drowned in the Chehalis River on July 29.

The celebration of life will begin at 5:30 p.m. in the Toledo High School gym.

Soto’s family invites guests to wear white, Soto’s favorite color, to “White Out” the gym and to wear Soto’s favorite accessory: a fanny pack.

Soto, a Toledo resident, died by accidental fresh water drowning in the Chehalis River near the railroad trestle on the Willapa Hills Trail just off Highway 603 on Friday, July 29, according to a report released by the Lewis County Coroner’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 100 block of Highway 603 at about 3:54 p.m. that day, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office. Responders made life-saving efforts but Soto could not be resuscitated.

Soto was a multi-sport athlete who participated in track, basketball and football throughout all his years at Toledo High School, earning placements at state in all three sports. He was attending Central Washington University for a degree in business at the time of his death.

Soto had a big heart and a love for his family, friends and community, with the willingness to put others' needs before his own, his parents previously told The Chronicle.

Along with other family members, Soto is survived by siblings Damion, Aleena, Ryan, Cheyanne, Jasmine, Serena and Destiny.
