Toledo Knocked Out of Districts With 2 Losses

The Toledo softball team found itself in the same situation it was in this time last year, losing its first game of the final day of the 2B district tournament and needing a win in a second game to extend its season one more game into a evening crossover matchup with a State bid on the line.

This time, though, the Riverhawks couldn’t get past the afternoon hurdle, falling 6-1 to Raymond-South Bend to end their season.

“We didn’t quit. We played hard, but take your hat off to their pitcher,” Toledo coach Jeff Davis said. “She mixed the ball up, and their defense was ready to play. They made some plays. They made more plays than we did, they got more hits than we did, and at the end of the day, they had more runs. They won the game, hat’s off to them, and we’ll get back to it next year.”

Bethany Bowen finished 3 for 3 at the plate for the Riverhawks, smacking a double. In the circle, she went the distance with four strikeouts.

Behind her, Kailea Lairson was 2 for 3. Outside of those two, though, the Riverhawks only had two knocks.

RSB jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, jumping on Bowen to the tune of two triples and a double, with a Toledo error sprinkled in. The Ravens added on single runs in the third, sixth, and seventh, while the Riverhawks put runners on base in six frames but could only cash one in the third on a defensive miscue.

Toledo ends its season with a 13-10 record, and will graduate three seniors: Bowen, Abby Marcil, and Candace Clark.
