Toledo’s baseball season came to an end on Saturday in Castle Rock, where the No. 11 Riverhawks lost to No. 6 Jenkins (Chewelah) 11-1 in the Opening Round of the 2B State Baseball Tournament.

The Cougars took control early with four runs in the first inning and added on with seven more runs across the third, fourth, and fifth.

Mason Ruiz, Rohan Feigenbaum, and Joaquin Acosta tallied Toledo’s three hits, and Isaac Parmantier scored the Riverhawks’ lone run.

Despite the loss, Toledo coach Mack Gaul kept things positive postgame.

“I told our guys that there’s no reason to hang our heads,” Gaul said. “The outcome, it is what it is, but no one expected us to be there. I’m proud of the way we fought when no one expected us to be there at the beginning of the season.”

He also commended his three seniors — Ryker Sorensen, Alex Luna-Ortiz, and Christian Martin — saying that all three brought a positive attitude, led by example, and were a joy to be around.

“I could always count on them,” Gaul said. “I’ll miss that for sure.”

The Riverhawks finish their season 16-10.
