In a couple of dominant innings in both of its matchups against Chief Leschi to open its season, the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley baseball team defeated the Warriors, 20-0, and then 18-0, in a total of five innings played Tuesday afternoon in Pe Ell.

In Game 1, Blake Howard had a strong day on the mound and at the plate, throwing a two-inning no-hitter with six strikeouts while adding a 3-for-3 line with two RBIs and three runs scored.

Liam Smaciarz added a 1-for-2 line with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored himself.

In the second game, an 18-0 win, the Riley Pearson threw a three-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and just one walk. Garrett Keeton starred at the plate, going 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs, and Derek Fluke knocked in two runs with a run scored himself.

“We looked as good as we could for our first game,” PWV coach Kent Smaciarz said. “A lot of those guys coming back from Spokane had the minimum number of practices and mostly in a gym, it was nice to get outside and play some baseball and get the basketball brain out of the way.”

PWV (2-0) takes on Naselle on the road Friday at 4 p.m. for its next matchup.
