Playing in its best conditions of the season so far, the Centralia girls golf team defeated Rochester Monday afternoon, 52-39.
Everyone varsity starter for the Tigers scored in a well-rounded effort, led by Samantha Johnston’s 24 points under the Stableford scoring system.
“Samantha played well and she struggled early on, but came back,” Tigers coach Hal Gronseth said. “That’s really encouraging to see. We had everyone score some points, we can get them a little higher as the season goes on.”
Behind Johnston, Tess McMurry (8), Emily Wilkerson (9), Elizabeth Orellana (5), Kezra Smith (6), and Zaira Reyes (2) scored as well for Centralia.
Rochester was led by Isabella Masias’ 12 points, followed by Cassey Arreglado (12), Audrey Williams (9), and Mallory Gilbert and Elaine Slifer scored 3 points apiece.
The Tigers take on Aberdeen at Grays Harbor Country Club on Thursday.
