After three full wins to start its week in three days, the Centralia softball team resumed its game halted last Thursday due to weather against Shelton, and defeated the Highclimbers, 8-1, at Borst Park to finish the week undefeated.

“It is a great way to finish before break,” Centralia coach David Orr said. “It was iffy that we were going to get it in, but we didn’t want to leave anything hanging around.”

Leading 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning with no outs when the game was postponed last week, the Tigers picked up right where they left off and tacked four more runs on the board before the game was over in seven innings.

Over the course of the full contest, Peyton Smith pitched 5 1/3 innings, pitching all four innings last week and adding another inning and a third to her total today, giving up just one unearned run on two hits and three walks with five punchouts. Hollynn Wakefield stepped in to pitch the final 1 2/3 innings, striking out with and allowing just one hit.

Over the course of the full game, including last week, Gracie Schofield led the Tigers at the plate, going 2 for 3 with two doubles and two runs scored with an RBI. Makayla Chavez went 2 for 3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Lily Babka went 2 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI knock.

The Tigers have yet to lose this season and head into spring break with an unblemished record. They’ll resume play against Aberdeen in a return to league play April 12.

“We just have to try to keep that energy up and that momentum going,” Orr said. “We just need to harness that momentum.”
