Tigers Pick Up Non-League Win Over Trojans

In a non-league matchup in Pe Ell, the Napavine volleyball team rode another strong defensive night from Emily Kang and Grace Gall to a four set (22-25, 25-17, 25-22, 25-20) win over the Trojans Monday night.

Though the Tigers still have plenty to work on, coach Monica Dailey was impressed again by her young back row, with Kang digging up 46 balls and Gall recording 21 digs.

But missed passes, errors, and the like were again a problem for Napavine, which dropped the first set before taking over in the latter part of the game.

“We were off from the very beginning,” Dailey said. “We didn’t warm up well. We made a lot of errors, we missed a lot of serves, we couldn’t put anything together. They figured it out and got the win. We talked about needing consistency after the game.”

Avery Schutz and Jessie McCoy both finished with 15 assists, and Keira O’Neill and Gall led the Tigers with 10 kills a piece. Eden Engel also featured on the left side with six kills.

For the Trojans, it was a night of celebration as they had Senior Night festivities before the game. Coach Hollie Briggs said that the Trojans rode that high right into the first set.

Briggs said that senior Payton Peterson stood out in the middle, recording a kill, three assists, three digs, and hustled hard in the loss. Outside of Peterson, Taylor Briggs had five kills and five aces, Alli Engel had nine kills and was 14 for 14 serving, and Abby Cox had no errors throughout the night.
