The Wahkiakum boys basketball team got all it could hand in Cathlamet on Wednesday but came out with the tough win, 63-58 over Wahkiakum to stay perfect on the year.
It’s just the second win by fewer than 10 points this winter for the Tigers (12-0, 5-0 C2BL), and the first Central 2B League win for Napavine by fewer than 18.
Napavine started off strong but cooled off a bit over the middle two quarters, letting the Mules come back to cut a five-point deficit down to one going into the fourth.
James Grose led the way with 28 points, crucially going 8 for 11 from the free-throw line by himself; Wahkiakum went 4 for 8 from the stripe as a team.
Karsen Denault added 14 points and eight rebounds, while Cayle Kelly had nine points thanks to a 3-of-4 night from beyond the arc.
Napavine will come back home Friday to face Winlock.
