Tigers Hold Off Ducks to Stay Perfect in League

Though the 2B No. 2 Napavine girls basketball team didn’t put away Toutle Lake until late, the Tigers also really didn’t let the Ducks inch close to springing an upset Tuesday night at home, earning a 69-51 win.

The Tigers stayed perfect in league play after a hot start and a hold-on job in the fourth quarter. Morgan Hamilton had 21 points to lead the Tigers and Dani Tupuola and Jessie McCoy each added 10 points off the bench.

Though the Tigers led 43-22 at the half, the Ducks brought it to within single digits in the fourth quarter until a late run put them away. Napavine forced 33 turnovers in the win, and committed just 15.

“Toutle Lake did a great job tonight defending us,” Tigers coach Shane Schutz said. “We sent them to the foul line way too many times. Credit to their kids in making free throws as well. Morgan had a good floor game. Dani and Jessie sparked us again off the bench.”

The Tigers have nearly a week off before returning to play against Kalama on Monday.
