Tigers Get Started With Win Over Wolves

The Centralia girls golf team weathered cold and wind and even some hail up at Tumwater Valley Golf Course on Wednesday, and came away with a win in its first action of the spring, beating Black Hills 51-45.

Samantha Johnston led the Tigers with 30 points under the adjusted Stableford Scoring system, coming away with two birdies to start her season.

“To do that in the first match of the year in not-ideal conditions at all… she was phenomenal today,” Centralia coach Hal Gronseth said.

Emily Wilkerson added nine points for the Tigers, Tess McMurry had eight, and Elizabeth Orellana rounded the team score out with four.

Grace Hurley led Black Hills with 15 points, Maya Hamilton scored 11, Melody Hackworth added nine, Morgan Vespoli scored seven, and Emily Victory had three.

Centralia will get back to Lewis County to face W.F. West at Newaukum Golf Course next Monday, while Black Hills will get a week off before going up against Rochester.
