Tigers’ Comeback Attempt Too-Little, Too-Late in Loss to Ducks

Posted

Though the Napavine baseball team took a 1-0 lead to start, the Tigers trailed the rest of the way and couldn’t make up the deficit after a late rally in the seventh to fall to Toutle Lake at home, 9-5.

The Tigers outhit the Ducks, 5-3, but committed four costly errors and walked 12 batters, leading to just four of the nine runs scored being earned by the Napavine pitching staff.

At the plate, the Tigers couldn’t manage much of anything against Toutle’s Connor Cox, who threw six innings allowing just two hits and striking out nine. Though Napavine got after the Ducks’ bullpen in the seventh, scoring four runs, it wasn’t enough to come back from the eight-run deficit.

Conner Holmes, Beckett Landram, and Grady Wilson each logged hits and RBIs for the Tigers to lead the way at the plate.

Napavine will hope to put this series behind them when they take on Wahkiakum in Cathlamet for another two-day series on Wednesday.
