The Napavine volleyball team couldn’t overcome a slow start on Thursday, falling at home to Raymond-South Bend 8-25, 17-25, 25-16, 20-25.
“It was a train wreck right out of the gate,” Napavine coach Monica Dailey said. “We just couldn’t get any rhythm going.”
The Tigers struggled to put the ball away all night, logging 35 hitting errors.
Dailey credited the defense and serve receive for keeping them in the game as long as they did, saying they had success limiting Raymond-South Bend’s hitters at the net.
“On defense, we definitely did what we wanted to do,” Dailey said. “Super proud of the girls for that.”
In the third set, Dailey said that the girls came out strong, taking the lead early and maintaining it by keeping focused and playing smarter.
Kennedy Purvis tallied nine kills and five aces, Lilly Grabianowski had 20 digs, and Anna Guenther added 14 digs.
Holly Brockmueller finished with 12 assists, and Sophie Bittner and Ava Ondong logged five kills apiece.
Napavine (2-2) will be at home again on Monday to host Toutle Lake in a non-league game.
