Tigers Blank Pirates on Opening Night

Running out to an early lead and never looking back, the Napavine football team blanked its rival Adna at home, 40-0, Friday night.

The Tigers (1-0) were led by a dominant defense, allowing Pirates quarterback Lane Johnson to complete one pass for six yards all night. The Pirates mustered just 22 yards of total offense, to the Tigers’ 495.

“Any time you can play an opening season football game it's always exciting,” Tigers coach Josh Fay said. “Not just our kids, but everyone. We came out and did some things well. Defensively we played really well. Hopefully we can replicate that a bit. We have some things we need to clean up offensively. The finish line is a long ways away for us.”

On offense, quarterback Ashton Demarest threw for nearly 300 yards with four touchdowns, all to different receivers in what has become a trademark of Napavine’s versatile offense.

Cael Stanley, James Grose, Conner Holmes, and Karsen Denault each caught touchdowns, and Stanley and Austin Chapman ran for two more.

The Tigers face off against Onalaska next week in another rivalry contest at home, while the Pirates look to bounce back against Pe Ell-Willapa Valley at home.
