Centralia softball erupted for 17 hits and the Tigers blasted Shelton for a 19-4 road victory in six innings in 2A Evergreen Conference action on Friday.

Leading 12-4 entering the top of the sixth, the Tigers hammered out seven runs before holding the Highclimbers scoreless in the bottom of the sixth to secure the run-rule victory.

Jimena Luis spearheaded the Tigers’ attack, going 3 for 4 with a home run, three RBIs and three runs. Makayla Chavez also smacked a homer, going 1 for 4 with three runs and an RBI.

Liza Hubbard was flawless at the plate, going 4 for 4 with six RBIs and a run scored.

Also tallying multi-hit games for the Tigers were Ella Orr (2 for 5), Jadyn Hawley (2 for 5) and Judy Vallejo (2 for 3).

After the long layoff, the Tigers knew a big batting performance was coming.

“It’s on the girls,” coach David Orr said. “They didn’t like what was happening and they put in the work in bad weather to get better. They decided to come in and work. They’re dialed in and hungry, and we’ve fixed a lot of things.”

Peyton Smith was solid on the mound, going all six innings while striking out four and allowing three earned runs on five hits and three walks.

Shelton pitcher Kayla Sembas also went six innings, striking out three and allowing 17 runs on 17 hits and five walks.

Centralia continues league play when it hosts W.F. West on Monday.
