Tigers and Riverhawks play to a tie

There was no winner in Toledo on Wednesday between Centralia and Toledo, as the Tigers and Riverhawks played to a 7-7 tie in a non-league contest.

Because it was a non-league game, and in the spirit of making sure the junior varsity teams would still be able to get a few innings in, the game was called after seven innings and no extras were played.

Centralia took control of the game in the early innings, scoring six across the second, third, and fourth to take a five-run lead.

Toledo took all of the momentum in the bottom of the fifth, though, scoring six runs to take a 7-6 lead.

The Tigers were able to tie the game on a wild pitch in the top of the seventh, but the Riverhawks got the potential winning run to third with no one out in their final at-bat.

A strikeout gave Centralia the first out of the inning, and then the runner at third got thrown out after a lineout to the pitcher for a 2-5 double play to end the game.

Peyton Holter allowed just one earned run and struck out seven in five and two-thirds innings of work, and she also tallied two hits at the plate. Taysia Miller, Zaya Norberg, and Ellie Seely also collected two hits each.

Madi Mounts and Adrianne Lynch had two hits each for the Tigers, while McKenna Smith didn’t allow a run in two innings in the circle. Hollynn Wakefield pitched the first five innings, giving up seven runs (four earned) and striking out six.

Centralia (1-1-1 will be back at home on Friday to host R.A. Long, while Toledo (1-0-1) will head to Winlock for a non-league game on Thursday.
