The Thurston County Auditor’s Office financial services team received its 16th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting by the Government Financial Officers Association (GFOA), according to a county news release.
GFOA also recognized the county itself for its “exceptional financial reporting practices.”
This award will make it easier for Thurston County officials to apply for grants and will also help lower the county’s bond rating and demonstrate to taxpayers that their money is being handled with accountability and integrity, according to the release.
“Thurston County has a deeply ingrained culture of financial compliance, controls, and outstanding accounting staff,” Thurston County Auditor Mary Hall said in the release.
Thurston County is also one of only a few counties in Washington that goes beyond the state auditor’s minimum reporting requirements by submitting an Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR).
