MENLO — The Titans started slow but scored 30 points in the third quarter to run away with a 46-0 win over Winlock in a Southwest Washington 2B District 4 crossover football game here on Thursday.
While the offense was stagnant at times, the Pe Ell-Willapa Valley defense was solid, allowing just 75 yards of Winlock offense.
“It was a slow first half. Every time we got something going, we shot ourselves in the foot. They weren’t really blocking that good,” PWV coach Josh Fluke said. “We had a pretty good motivational speech at halftime and played our butts off like we have been the last couple weeks.”
PWV’s Peter Hamilton returned to the lineup for the first time since Week 3 and led the way, rushing for 145 yards on 11 carries and three touchdowns. Max Smith had 98 yards on 19 carries and two touchdowns.
Quarterback Logan Walker completed 6 of 10 passes for 66 yards and ran for a touchdown. Wyatt Bush caught two passes for 30 yards and Sam Western caught two passes for 15 yards.
Winlock’s Nolan Swofford had a team-high 31 rushing yards on eight carries and Everardo Garcia had 24 yards on seven carries.
Bryce Cline was 2 of 9 passing for 18 yards and Noah Patching caught both passes for 18 yards.
Walker scored the only points of the first quarter on an 8-yard run. Hamilton scored the only points of the second quarter on a 2-yard run for a 16-0 lead at halftime.
The Titans came out hot in the third quarter, starting with two rushing touchdowns by Max Smith of four and five yards. Hamilton ran in the next two touchdowns from eight and 33 yards out to secure the victory.
“It feels good, I like it,” Fluke said on making it back to the state tournament. “This committee, we’ll see what happens there.”
Winlock ends the season 3-7 overall. It was the final prep football game for Winlock’s Anthony Clevenger, Garcia, Kaelan Hinton, Tristen Roberts and Andy Moerke.
Adna Crushes Ilwaco to Punch State Ticket
ADNA — The Pirates scored 35 points in the first quarter and never looked back, earning a spot in the state tournament with a 49-0 win over Ocosta in a Southwest Washington 2B District 4 crossover football game here on Thursday.
The defense was stout as usual for Adna, allowing 81 total yards including just two yards on the ground.
Meanwhile, the Pirate offense collected 403 yards total, including 280 yards on the ground. Elmer Loose had two carries for 62 yards and two TDs and Tyler Werner had seven carries for 49 yards and a touchdown.
Quarterback Braden Thomas was 6 of 8 passing for 123 yards and a TD and also ran in a touchdown. Chance Fay caught two passes for 70 yards and a score.
“I was really happy with our preparation. Our defense was incredible. We’re doing a good job preparing for games even though we know we’re going to be OK. I’m happy with how we’re preparing,” Adna coach KC Johnson said. “We’ll wait for Sunday and the draw from seeding committee and then we’ll go to work. Hopefully, we’ll get that No. 1 seed and host someone at our place next weekend.”
The Pirates scored on the first play of the game, with Thomas finding Fay for a 61-yard touchdown pass. Cole Fay scored next on a 14-yard run, followed by a 6-yard rushing score by Elmer Loose. Cole Fay scored his second of the quarter on an 8-yard run and Thomas used his legs for a 9-yard score and a 35-0 lead after one quarter.
Loose scored the only TD of the second quarter on a 56-yard run and his second score of the game.
Werner completed the scoring in the fourth quarter with a 7-yard run.
The Pirates improved to 10-0 this season and await the WIAA’s seeding committee bracket on Sunday.
Kalama Dominates Morton-White Pass to End T-Wolves Season
KALAMA — The Chinooks scored 21 points in each the first and second quarter to secure their spot into the state tournament with a 55-0 win over Morton-White Pass in a SWW 2B District 4 crossover football game here on Thursday.
Kalama totaled 504 yards of offense while holding MWP to just 151 yards total. The T-Wolves accumulated 135 yards on the ground, led by quarterback Kaleb Rashoff with 42 yards on 10 carries and Gavyn Higdon adding 33 yards on seven carries.
Rashoff was 4 of 5 passing for 16 yards and Higdon caught three passes for 14 yards.
“It is what it is. We battled, I’m proud of the kids,” MWP coach Lee Metcalf said. “I’m proud of the seniors for fighting hard all the way to the end. I thought we had a successful season.”
Kalama’s Alex Dyer completed 11 of 12 passes for 196 yards and three touchdowns. Brennon Vance caught four passes for 114 yards and a score and rushed for 99 yards on three carries and a score. Randall Keithley caught two passes for 100 yards and a score and Elijah Haynes ran three times for 60 yards and a touchdown.
Vance started the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown run. Dyer recorded his first throwing score of the game on a 1-yard pass to Max Ross and Bradey Vance converted a 13-yard rushing score for a 21-0 lead after one quarter.
Dyer completed a 91-yard touchdown pass to Keithley to start the second quarter. Dyer found Brennon Vance on a 61-yard score and Haynes scored on a 9-yard run for a 42-0 lead at intermission.
Bradey O’Neil scored the only points of the third quarter on a 2-yard run and Brayden Libbey completed a 68-yard TD pass to Max Cox in the fourth quarter for the final score of the game.
It was the final prep football game for MWP’s Rashoff, Nick Snickers, Caliph Wideman, Jesse Urban, Michael Hughes, Higdon, Dylan Hamre, Haliburton Henderson, Alex Sniezak and Dylan Richards.
The Timberwolves finished the season 6-4 overall.
Note: Wahkiakum defeated Raymond 22-10 in the other District 4 2B football crossover game. Raymond, Ilwaco and Onalaska will compete for the final spot out of District 4 into the state tournament on Saturday in Centralia.
