In a mostly defensive battle through two quarters, the Tumwater girls basketball team erupted in the third quarter to take home a 71-45 victory over 3A Timberline Tuesday night on the road.

The Thunderbirds’ star senior guard, Kylie Waltermeyer, went down with an injury in the second quarter, and after halftime the T-Birds settled in and outscored the Blazers, 30-10, to pull away.

In Waltermeyer’s absence, Sydney Sumrok scored 15 points to provide the scoring spark off the bench Tumwater needed. Fellow guard Regan Brewer led the team in scoring with 21 points on 10 of 13 shooting with seven assists.

The T-Birds take on 1A Montesano next on Thursday for another non-league matchup.
