W.F. West’s doubles team of Joseph Chung and Aaron Boggess and singles player Justin Chung all qualified for state at the 2A District 4 Boys Tennis Tournament Tuesday at Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club in Olympia.

Bearcat freshman singles player Javyn Han is also one victory away from qualifying for state as well.

In singles on Tuesday, Justin Chung defeated R.A. Long’s Aiden McCoy (6-1, 6-1) in the opening round, then defeated Fort Vancouver’s Jeffrey Troung (6-3, 6-1) to advance to the title match. Chung will face Columbia River’s Matt Rudi on Thursday for the district championship.

Han lost to Troung in the opening round, then defeated McCoy in the loser’s bracket  (6-4, 6-1). Han will face Shelton’s Brendan Wagner on Thursday with the winner advancing to the third/fourth-place match and qualifying for state.

On the doubles side, W.F. West’s Chung and Boggess defeated Han and Palmersheim in the opening round (6-0, 6-2), then defeated Kestner and Kneipp (6-1, 6-1). Chung and Bogges will now face Nester and Grubb of Ridgefield for the district championship on Thursday.

“Thursday’s goal is to win those championships and get Javyn to win his match and qualify for the state tourney,” W.F. West coach Jack State said.

The final round of districts is Thursday at Steamboat Tennis and Athletic Club.
