Tenino overwhelmed early in loss at Montesano

The Tenino boys basketball team’s skid continued on Thursday, as the Beavers lost at Montesano 56-35. It’s Tenino’s fourth straight loss.

The Beavers were behind the 8-ball almost instantly, as they were outscored 21-3 in the first quarter.

“We didn’t defend really well early,” Tenino coach Ryan Robertson said. “We felt like we had a good game plan to take it away, but we couldn’t overcome it.”

The rest of the game was mostly even, but more than half of Tenino’s offensive output came in the fourth. By then, it was too little, too late.

As a team, Tenino shot just 25 percent from the field. During the Beavers’ four-game losing streak, they’ve averaged just 40 points per game.

“It gets frustrating because the ball is not going in the hoop,” Robertson said. “We’re just struggling to find any kind of offensive rhythm … We just have to stay together, keep working hard, believe in what we’re doing, and make it work.”

Tenino’s (2-10, 0-1 1A Evergreen) next chance to get back in the win column will be on Saturday at R.A. Long.
