An 18-year-old man who died in a single-vehicle wreck in Mason County Sunday morning has been identified, according to Washington State Patrol.

Irving U. Bautista of Shelton was headed north on U.S. 101 near Kamilche about 7:30 a.m. Sunday. Troopers say he was driving at a "high rate of speed" when he attempted to pass another vehicle in the left turn lane.

The vehicle then swerved, according to State Patrol, crashed into the cable barrier in the median, then rolled coming to a stop facing southbound in the median.

Bautista was later airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle where he died, according to State Patrol. Troopers say he was not wearing his seat belt.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 101 were blocked for nearly three hours.
