T-Birds Wake Up in Second Half, Down Beavers

The Tumwater girls basketball team’s offense started off quiet enough to let visiting Woodland maintain early hopes of an upset, but the T-Birds found their groove out of halftime to pull away with a 51-26 win in the opening round of the 2A District 4 tournament.

Woodland led 8-7 after eight minutes of play, and went into halftime down by just two at 15-13.

But whatever coach Nathan Buchheit said to his team in the locker room worked, as the Thunderbirds came out with a 21-point third quarter, and proceeded to outsourcing their guests 36-13 in the second half.

Regan Brewer led the way with 19 points and came close to a triple-double with eight steals and nine rebounds. Kylie Waltermeyer scored 14 points and dished out five assists, while Rhylee Beebe had seven points, four rebounds, and two steals.

Tumwater will cross the freeway into rival territory Monday for its semifinal matchup, taking on GSHL No. 1 Columbia River at Black Hills on Monday.
