T-Birds Top Bearcats in Game Split Between Two Days

After only making it to the bottom of the first before being rained out during Tumwater and W.F. West’s game on Thursday, the two squads resumed the match on Friday with better conditions.

The game resumed with the Bearcats on the field leading 2-0 with the bases loaded. The Thunderbirds took advantage, scoring six runs to come away with a 6-2 victory in 2A Evergreen Conference play in Tumwater.

In a game with 18 total walks, it was Tumwater who was able to capitalize, even with only collecting three hits on the day as four of its runs came from walks, with the other two via singles.

Kyler Collier (1 for 2), Ryan Orr (1 for 3) and Graysen Reveal (1 for 4) tallied the three hits, while all three, along with Brayden Oram, Briar Finney and Eddie Marson all each drove in a run to fuel the offense.

Blake Smith pitched the middle five innings, striking out seven and allowing two hits and two walks with no runs. Orr started the game, pitching the first inning on Thursday while walking five and allowing two earned runs with no hits.

The Bearcats, meanwhile managed just two hits, one from Braden Jones and another from Ross Kelley. Brock Bunker and Gavin Fugate each scored a run.

Hunter Lutman started on the mound for W.F. West, lasting two-thirds of an inning while striking out two and allowing six runs on seven walks and one hit. Jeron Martin tossed 4.1 scoreless innings, striking out four and allowing four walks with two hits.

W.F. West heads to Rochester for a 4:30 p.m. matchup on Tuesday. Tumwater heads to Selah for a 4:30 p.m. start on Wednesday.
