T-Birds Pull Away From Lyncs to Stay Unbeaten

Tumwater shot over 50% from the field, made eight threes, and pulled away in a third quarter barrage to stay unbeaten and beat host 1A Lynden Christian, 70-57, on the second day of the Lynden Christmas Classic Wednesday night.

The perennial 1A powerhouse Lyncs couldn’t keep up with the swarming T-Birds, with just two double figure scorers to the Thunderbirds’ three: Natalie Sumrok (14 points), Kylie Waltermeyer (21 points), and Isabella Lund (17 points).

It’s Tumwaters second victory in two days at the tournament after dispatching Nooksack Valley on Tuesday. The Thunderbirds snatched up 16 steals and turned those into 20 points off turnovers in another dominant win.

The T-Birds (8-0) will test their undefeated record against 4A Mt. Si in the Lynden Christmas Classic closer Thursday.
