T-Birds overcome penalties to defeat Pioneers

The Tumwater football team overcame a slew of penalties on Friday night, defeating Nooksack Valley 48-28 in Nooksack.

Peyton Davis, Blake Heryford (two), Gavin Kaikkonen, and Grady Wall all found the end zone on the ground, while Tyler Briscoe returned a kickoff for a touchdown and Nate Lowery returned an interception for a touchdown.

All of that was enough to overcome 15-plus penalties, which Tumwater coach William Garrow took the blame for.

“They were physical and had a great plan,” Garrow said. “I need to do a better job of getting our team ready to execute at a high level and not commit these penalties that kill our offensive drives or extend the opposing team’s drives.”

Tumwater (3-1) has now won three games in a row since dropping its Week 1 game against Puyallup, and the T-Birds will have another 4A opponent when they welcome Union.
