T-Birds get back in win column by topping Tigers

The Tumwater girls basketball team snapped a short two-game losing streak on Wednesday, defeating Centralia 41-33.

The Thunderbirds best offensive quarter came in the first, when they scored 17, but they were able to do enough defensively to maintain their lead throughout the rest of the game.

Reece Brewer scored a game-high 12 points, while Sydney Sumrok added eight. Cadynce Lee, Raygen Cooper, and Dakota Cahill each added five, while Kamryn Wilson tallied four and Anden Demaris logged two.

Makenzie Erickson and Brooklyn Sprague led Centralia with 10 points apiece, and Maddie Ahern wasn’t far behind with nine. Emma Ferch added three, and Ayana Saucedo recorded one.

With the win, Tumwater (6-11, 4-3 2A EvCo) is now in third place in the EvCo standings, but they are slated as the No. 2 seed in the district tournament because Shelton competes in the 3A postseason.

Centralia (5-12, 0-7 2A EvCo) is two games back of Aberdeen for a district spot. The Tigers need to win out and have Aberdeen lose out in league play to get a spot, as the Bobcats have the tiebreaker thanks to their season sweep.

Both teams return to the court on Friday, as Centralia will hit the road to face Shelton and Tumwater will return home to host Black Hills.
