T-Birds Dominate 2A EvCo Meet

TUMWATER — The Tumwater track and field team blew out the competition at Tumwater District Stadium on Wednesday, finishing first in a four-team 2A EvCo meet against Black Hills, Centralia, and Shelton with room to spare.

On the boys’ side, the T-Birds came home with 103.5 points, with Shelton in second at 29.5 and Black Hills and Centralia tying with each other at 14. For the girls, the Thunderbirds had 80 points to the Wolves’ 54, the Highclimbers’ 33, and the Tigers’ 17,

Tumwater came away with wins in 21 of the 34 events, though three were uncontested against other schools.

Annabelle Clapp won the girls 100-meter dash in 13.04 for the T-Birds, then won the 200 by over a second at 26.68, and also ran the anchor leg for Tumwater’s 4x400 relay team, joining Reese Heryford, Cassidy Hedin, and Sally Beyene to win with a time of 4:16.63. On the field, McKayla Clary had two wins for the T-Birds, in the shot put (33 feet, 1 inch) and the javelin (101 feet, 6 inches).

Hein gave the T-Birds a win in the 400 (1:04.19), and Olivia Ahrens won the 1,600 (5:47.86). Kaila Fisher won the triple jump at 30 feet, 4 inches, and Emily Kamaunu and Wendy Farrel tied for first in the pole vault at 7 feet.



In the boys’ meet, John Hoffer won the 800 (2:00.06) and the 1,600 (4:26.83). Blake Kirkpatrick won the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.80, Josh Schlecht won the 400 in 53.53, and Andrew Harnden won the 3,200 in 10:47.30.

Jayden Thomas won the high jump at 6 feet, and also ran the 110-meter hurdles in 16.92 in a one-man race. The T-Birds sent out five teams to run the 4x400 relay, with the top quartet of Kirkpatrick, Brady Bryant, Christian Schlecht, and Reis Howell winning in 3:34.74.

Malijah Tucker gave to T-Birds a dominant win in the javelin at 143, 8 inches, Orion Haury won the pole vault at 8 feet, 6 inches, Aaron Paul won the long jump at 21 feet, 4.5 inches, and Makhi Odams hit 41 feet, 6 inches to win the triple jump.

Black Hills’ Liam Wall took two wins for the Wolves on the field, placing first in the boys shot put (47 feet, 7 inches), and the discus (140 feet, 5 inches). On the girls’ side, Lilly Kincaid won the 800 (2:34.75), Ashley Harris won the javelin (101 feet, 6 inches), and Olivia Cammack won the long jump (14 feet, 3.5 inches).

Centralia’s wins came from Ruth Gonzalez in the 3,200, who won with a time of 15:02.76, and Irais Carrillo-Montenegro, who won the 300-meter hurdles in 58.58. On the boys’ side, Devin Harrison took second in the 1,600 (4:44.56), William Stinkeoway was second in the discus (126 feet, 1 inch), and David Daarud was second in the javelin (124 feet, 3 inches).
