It was a tight contest between W.F. West and Aberdeen at halftime on Thursday, but strong third quarters from Grady Westlund and Weston Potter helped the Bearcats pull away for a 66-49 victory.
Westlund and Potter combined for 18 points in the third, which helped W.F. West extend its lead from one to 19.
Westlund finished the night with 22 points and 16 rebounds, while Potter added 11 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Fox Rogerson and Carlos Vallejo both added six points, while Ross Kelley and Hayden Rooney both scored five. Wyatt Hoffman didn’t get on the scoresheet, but he hauled in eight rebounds.
With the win, W.F. West (9-10, 5-3 2A EvCo) is now just a half-game back of Tumwater for the No. 2 spot in the EvCo standings.
They’ll have two more chances to gain ground next week, as they’ll host Shelton on Wednesday before coming to Centralia on Thursday, Feb. 7.
Centralia falls at home against Shelton
The Centralia boys basketball team lost to Shelton on Thursday night, falling 48-36 at home.
With the loss, the Tigers were officially eliminated from district tournament contention. Centralia will be back in action on Wednesday at Black Hills.
