State Suspends License of Lewis County Nurse Convicted on Domestic Violence Charge

The Washington State Department of Health has suspended the nursing license of a Lewis County man convicted of second-degree assault, domestic violence, in April.

The defendant, Brian L. Gulmire, was initially charged in Lewis County Superior Court in December 2020 for allegedly beating and choking an intimate partner.

He entered a guilty plea on April 21 and was sentenced June 2 to nine months in prison followed by 12 months of community supervision.

The state Nursing Care Quality Assurance Commission charged Gulmire with unprofessional conduct on Aug. 9. On Aug. 11, the commission found that “physical assaults on an intimate partner … justifies a determination that (Gulmire) constitutes an immediate threat to the public,” according to case documents.

Gulmire’s license will remain suspended until the commission holds a hearing on the case.

Gulmire’s license was first issued in January 2017 and automatically expired on June 30, 2021. The commission’s suspension prevents Gulmire from renewing his license or practicing in his field until the case is resolved.
