Heading out on the road for its second game of the season, the Centralia softball team needed a late surge, but defeated Toutle Lake, 8-2, Friday night in Cowlitz County.

The Tigers fell behind, 2-1, and were behind for most of the game until Judy Vallejo tied the game with a double that scored Gracie Schofield in the fifth. After that, it was all Centralia.

Centralia scored six runs in the sixth inning to pull away for good and move to 2-0 on the early season against a 2B foe.

Vallejo finished 3 for 4 with a run scored and four RBIs, and Makayla Chavez went 1 for 4 with a run scored and two RBIs. Jimena Luis also starred at the plate, going 3 for 3 with an RBI.

In the circle, Peyton Smith got the start and threw five innings, allowing two runs, with just one earned, on four hits and two walks allowed. The senior also struck out three. Hollynn Wakefield stepped in for Smith in the sixth and pitched two scoreless innings with three punchouts.

The Tigers (2-0) will take on Hockinson at home on Monday at 4:30 p.m. for their first home game of the season in more non-league action.
