Sirens: Urinating in a Police Vehicle; Arson Investigated; Juvenile Arrested for Assault; Harassment

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Criminal Trespass

• Eddie W. Bernards, 52, of Lynnwood, was arrested at 7:15 a.m. on March 1 for criminal trespassing and resisting arrest after he reportedly refused to leave a business in the 100 block of North Gold Street after being ordered to do so. When officers attempted to arrest him, he resisted, causing an officer to sustain a minor injury. After being arrested, Bernards urinated in the police vehicle, causing it to be taken out of service, according to the Centralia Police Department. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail and has since been charged in Centralia Municipal Court with obstructing a law enforcement officer and first-degree criminal trespassing.

• A Centralia man was arrested in the 1000 block of Eckerson Road just after 3 p.m. on March 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged second-degree criminal trespassing after he was found on property that had a “no trespassing” sign posted. 

• A man, noted in police logs to be “transient,” was trespassed from an apartment complex after “becoming verbally aggressive toward a security officer who had asked him to leave the property” in the 100 block of South Silver Street at 5:37 p.m. on March 2. 

 

Assault 

• A Chehalis man was arrested in the 900 block of Mikayla Lane just before 8:50 a.m. on March 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged fourth-degree assault, domestic violence. 

 

Hit-and-Run 

• A hit-and-run was reported in the 600 block of West Main Street just before 11:45 a.m. on March 1. 

 

Disorderly Conduct 

• A Centralia woman was arrested in the 1400 block of Lum Road just before 5:10 p.m. on March 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for disorderly conduct after she was reportedly seen walking in the middle of the roadway and obstructing traffic. She was also trespassed from a nearby business for allegedly harassing an employee. 

 

Theft

• On March 2 at 6:38 p.m. a small propane torch was called in as stolen from a business in the 1600 block of Harrison Avenue by an adult male.

 

Collision

• A two-vehicle collision was reported in the intersection of Mellen Street and Marsh Avenue around 11:20 a.m. on March 2.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT 

Theft 

• A case of non-specific fraud was reported in the 300 block of Southeast Park Hill Drive just after 10:15 a.m. on March 1. 

• A vehicle theft reported in the 200 block of South Market Boulevard just before 6:35 p.m. on March 1 is under investigation. 

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 9:25 p.m. on March 1 is under investigation. 

• A second-degree burglary that took place around 11:45 a.m. in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street prompted an active case.

• An arrest was made after a third-degree theft in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:37 p.m. on March 2 where all items were recovered.



 

Assault 

• A juvenile was arrested in the 1200 block of Southwest Ripple Court just after 1:35 p.m. on March 1 and was booked into the Lewis County Juvenile Detention Center for alleged fourth-degree assault. 

 

Arson 

• A case of second-degree arson reported in the 200 block of Southwest Interstate Avenue just after 2:05 p.m. on March 1 is under investigation. No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, but a subject had either been issued a citation or had charges against them referred to a local prosecutor’s office. 

 

Dispute 

• A physical dispute was reported in the 500 block of Southeast Washington Avenue at approximately 2:20 p.m. on March 1. No arrests were made. 

• A dispute around 1:45 p.m. on March 2 was reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street where a caller said someone was “kicking” their “house door due to her boyfriend” being inside their apartment. No arrests were made.

 

Harassment

• Just before 8:30 a.m. on March 2, a caller in the 300 block of Southwest 16th Street reported death threats made over text to their son. Police logs said the phone had only one call from the number “(i)n 2021 in Winlock.”

 

Malicious Mischief 

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 200 block of Southwest 13th Street just after 3:50 p.m. on March 1 is under investigation. 

 

Accidents

• Around 2:15 p.m. on March 2, a caller reported his truck “was dinged” in a parking lot in the 1600 block of Louisiana Avenue and he was “waiting for the person parked next to him to come out so he can confront him.” No arrests were made.

• A vehicle accident with injuries was reported just after 5 p.m. on March 2 in the 600 block of Southeast Prospect Street. Police logs stated a case on the accident was active. 

 

Disorderly Conduct

• A case is underway following a non-specific disorderly conduct incident reported in the 1300 block of Northwest State Avenue at 6:36 a.m. on March 3.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Friday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 165 inmates, including 152 in the general population and 13 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 116 were reported male and 36 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 11 were reported male and two were reported female.
