Sirens: Morton and Mossyrock Incidents; Dogs Left in Cars; DUI Arrests; Car Stolen While Owner Fills Tire With Air

CENTRALIA POLICE DEPARTMENT

Theft

• A green GT BMX-style bike was reported stolen from a bike rack at a store in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue at approximately 8:15 a.m. on July 29. The suspects were last seen leaving the area on Belmont Avenue, but police could not locate them.

• Just before 10:35 a.m. on July 29, $4.75 in change was reported stolen from the 100 block of Virginia Avenue.

• Merchandise was reported stolen from a business in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just before 1:15 p.m. on July 31.

• Just after 5:35 p.m. on July 31, three men reportedly exited a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road with “armloads of stolen merchandise with an estimated worth of approximately $3,000.” No arrests were made.

• Just after 10:55 a.m. on July 29, a debit card and an EBT card were reported stolen from a parked vehicle in the 1300 block of Harrison Avenue sometime overnight.

 

Vehicle Theft and Recovery

• Police located a stolen vehicle in the 1300 block of Belmont Avenue just before 8:30 p.m. on July 29. Officers returned the vehicle to its owner.

• A suspect described as “a white male wearing a white hooded sweatshirt” reportedly stole a silver 2001 Chevrolet Malibu, Washington state license plate BGL5584, from the 1000 block of Belmont Avenue just after 6 a.m. on July 30 while the victim was putting air into the vehicle’s tires. The vehicle was last seen heading northbound on Interstate 5.

 

Vehicle Accidents

• Minor injuries were reported following a vehicle vs. bicyclist collision reported in the 600 block of Harrison Avenue just before 11:20 a.m. on July 29. The vehicle had pulled out of a parking lot while the bicyclist was traveling westbound on the sidewalk. It was unclear who had the right of way at the time due to conflicting stories, according to police.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 800 block of Harrison Avenue just after 9:55 p.m. on July 29.

• Injuries were reported following a two-vehicle collision that blocked the roadway in the 600 block of West Main Street at 1:05 p.m. on July 31. The Centralia Police Department did not release additional information on the incident.

 

Hit-and-Run

• A hit-and-run was reported at the intersection of Harrison Avenue and northbound Interstate 5 just after 8:30 a.m. on July 31.

 

Eluding

• A vehicle reportedly fled from police north on Interstate 5 after an officer observed it driving recklessly on Harrison Avenue and attempted a traffic stop at the intersection with West High Street just before 5:40 p.m. on July 29. Police did not pursue the vehicle.

• A male suspect fled from police in the 1100 block of Harrison Avenue just after 1 p.m. on July 31 after he allegedly stole merchandise from a business. Responding officers reportedly responded, located the suspect and ordered him to turn the vehicle off and exit the vehicle before the suspect fled. Officers did not pursue, but located the abandoned vehicle a short time later. Officers obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and located the stolen property.

Trespasses

• A man was trespassed from a business in the 100 block of South Tower Avenue just before 10:45 p.m. on July 29 after he was reportedly involved in a physical dispute and refused to leave the business.

• A woman was trespassed from a business in the 1400 block of Lum Road just after 5:50 p.m. on July 31 for reportedly returning to the business after allegedly stealing from it.

• A man was trespassed from a business in the 500 block of South Tower Avenue at approximately 7:10 p.m. on July 31 for allegedly being disorderly. 

 

DUI

• Justus L.C. Crawford, 24, of Centralia, was arrested at the intersection of South Ash and Elm streets just before 12:30 a.m. on July 30 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly driving under the influence.

• Jaimie A. Hammill, 34, of Chehalis, was arrested just before 2:15 p.m. on July 31 after she collided with parked vehicles on Cooks Hill Road near the intersection with Wayne Drive.  Hammill was transported to the hospital, where she was issued a citation for allegedly driving under the influence.

 

Assault

• A Centralia resident was arrested in the 1800 block of North Pearl Street just after 8:10 p.m. on July 31 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged fourth-degree assault, domestic violence.

 

Malicious Mischief

• At approximately 11:35 p.m. on July 31, personal items were reported stolen from a tent and damage was reported to a vehicle in the 1000 block of Scammon Creek Road.

• A woman reportedly damaged a garbage can in the 1900 block of Foxglove Lane just after 1 a.m. on Aug. 1.

 

CHEHALIS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Harassment

• A case of telephonic harassment was reported in the 1000 block of Southwest 20th Street just after 8:55 a.m. on July 29.

 

Vehicle Accidents

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 11:15 a.m. on July 29.

• A driver reportedly ran over a sign at the intersection of Northeast Division Street and Northeast Washington Avenue at approximately 2:30 p.m. on July 29.

• A vehicle accident reported at the intersection of northbound Interstate 5 and Northwest Chamber of Commerce Way just before 9:35 p.m. on July 29 is under investigation. A 17-year-old Centralia resident was cited for failing to yield.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle collision was reported in the 1600 block of South Market Boulevard just after 11:45 a.m. on July 30.

• A non-injury, two-vehicle accident was reported in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:50 p.m. on July 30.

 

Theft

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1400 block of Southwest Wilson Avenue just after 2:55 p.m. on July 29 is under investigation.

• A second-degree theft reported in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 4:10 p.m. on July 29 is under investigation.

• A subject was arrested in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 4:20 p.m. on July 29 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for allegedly stealing a $1,000 welder from a business.

• A third-degree theft reported in the 1300 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 8:25 a.m. on July 30 is under investigation.

• Merchandise was reportedly shoplifted from a business in the 1700 block of North National Avenue just before 2:40 p.m. on July 30.



 

Vehicle Prowl

• A vehicle prowl reported in the 300 block of Southwest Third Street at 4 p.m. on July 29 is under investigation.

• Gucci glasses were reported stolen from a vehicle in the 700 block of Northwest Liberty Place just after 4:30 a.m. on July 30.

 

Dogs Left in Cars

• Three to five dogs were reportedly “in distress” inside a vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 3:45 p.m. on July 29. Law enforcement checked on the dogs and advised their owner not to keep them in the vehicle when it’s hot.

• A dog was reported inside a parked vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue at 5:20 p.m. on July 29. The reporting party stated the vehicle windows were rolled down but the dog was panting.

• An unattended dog was reported inside a parked vehicle in the 1600 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 7:55 p.m. on July 30. The windows were rolled down and the people walking past the vehicle gave the dog water but the owner was not present.

 

Trespassing

• A disorderly subject was trespassed from a property in the 1300 block of Southwest McFadden Avenue at 5:25 p.m. on July 29.

• A woman who reportedly wanted into a business in the 100 block of North State Avenue and asked for an ambulance was trespassed from the property at approximately 6:35 p.m. on July 29.

• A subject was trespassed from a library in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard at 10:10 a.m. on July 30.

 

Found Child

• Just after 11:20 a.m. on July 30, a 4-year-old reportedly ran from ChehalisFest into a store in the 300 block of Northwest Chehalis Avenue and couldn’t find their parents.

 

Malicious Mischief

• Wires were reportedly cut in the 1700 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just after 8:20 p.m. on July 30.

• A case of third-degree malicious mischief reported in the 400 block of North Market Boulevard just after 6:10 p.m. on July 31 is under investigation.

• An unidentified subject reportedly drilled a hole into the gas tank of a van in the 1500 block of Southwest Louisiana Avenue at 7:20 a.m. on Aug. 1.

 

Hit-and-Run

• A hit-and-run to a parked vehicle in the 1600 block of Southwest Gails Avenue was reported just after 11:35 a.m. on July 31.

 

Assault

• A subject was arrested in the 1500 block of Northwest Louisiana Avenue just before 3:05 p.m. on July 31 and was booked into the Lewis County Jail for alleged fourth-degree assault.

 

Punching Vehicle

• Seven people reportedly “punched (a) vehicle” in the 1500 block of North National Avenue at 8:55 p.m. on July 31. No arrests were made.

 

MORTON POLICE DEPARTMENT

Morton Incidents

• An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of Main Avenue at 8:10 p.m. on July 13 regarding a verbal dispute. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to a nuisance complaint in the 100 block of Wood Avenue just before 8:15 p.m. on July 14. The complaint is pending further investigation.

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Second Street at 5:55 p.m. on July 18 regarding a family dispute. The officer spoke with both parties, who agreed to separate for the evening.

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Third Street just before 8:35 p.m. on July 18 regarding a report of malicious mischief where an individual smashed a storefront window. The officer located the suspect, who was heavily intoxicated, and ordered him to sit down. The individual became agitated and ran away from the officer, who then pursued him with his vehicle. The subject was arrested and transported to Lewis County Jail, where he was booked for breach of public peace, drinking in public and resisting arrest. An additional charge of second-degree malicious mischief was referred to the Lewis County Prosecutor's Office.

• An officer was dispatched to the 100 block of Third Street just after 10:15 a.m. on July 19 regarding a nuisance complaint.

• An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of Knittles Way just before 5 p.m. on July 18 regarding a criminal trespass.

• While on patrol just before 2:40 p.m. on July 21, an officer contacted an individual who was drinking on a public roadway. The individual was issued a citation for opening or consuming liquor in a public place and for drinking in public conveyance.

• An officer was dispatched to the Gust Backstrom Park at 9:35 a.m. on July 22 regarding a disorderly individual who became agitated when his daughter was accidently locked inside a restroom. The park host assisted with opening the locked door, and the individual became angry that the door was not opening fast enough. The individual admitted to yelling at the park host and agreed to leave the park on his own.

• An officer was dispatched to a disorderly complaint just before 11:45 p.m. on July 22 in the 100 block of Seventh Street. The officer spoke with the residents of the home and determined there was no victim in the area. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to a noise complaint in the 100 block of Adams Ave just after 2:10 a.m. on July 23. The officer was unable to contact the resident of the property where the noise originated. An informational report was taken.

 

Mossyrock Incidents

• An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of James Street just before 10:55 a.m. on July 8 regarding a shooting complaint. A resident had found an arrow in their yard and was concerned for their grandchildren, who played in the yard. The officer had determined the arrow had come from a neighbor’s house, who was testing arrows when the arrow shot in an unexpected direction. An informational report was taken.

• An officer was dispatched to the 200 block of Hazel Ave just before 7:10 p.m. on July 10 regarding a theft complaint. The investigation is pending further information.

• An officer was dispatched to a harassment complaint at the 100 block of Engle Ave just after 11:15 a.m. on July 19. An informational report was taken.

 

LEWIS COUNTY JAIL STATISTICS

As of Monday morning, the Lewis County Jail had a total system population of 167 inmates, including 149 in the general population and 18 in the Work Ethic and Restitution Center (WERC). Of general population inmates, 116 were reported male and 33 were reported female. Of the WERC inmates, 15 were reported male and three were reported female.
