Shortened Shutout Caps 2nd CC Split With Clark

The Centralia College baseball team dodged raindrops all afternoon Sunday in a shorter doubleheader against Clark College than its 23-inning day Saturday, splitting its second straight twin bill with an 11-5 loss in five innings before coming back to win 5-0 in seven.

Ryan Henrickson did the bulk of the work on the mound in Game 2, scattering three hits and four walks across six shutout innings to earn the win. Reid Sturn gave up a hit and a walk in the seventh, but kept the shutout intact.

Casen Taggart did the most with the shortened game, going 2 for 2 at the plate with a walk, a double, and his NWAC-leading seventh home run of the season. Bennett Comes also had two hits and two RBIs, while River Terry hit a double.

Comes went yard in the first game of the day as part of a two-hit game, a two-run shot that made it 5-2 in the bottom of the third. From there, though, it was all Penguins, as the visitors scored nine runs in the final four innings to pull away with a win.

Taggart and Tony Groninger also had two-hit games in Game 1.

Centralia is slated to get four days off, before playing eight games in four days, starting with a twin bill against Lane College on Thursday.
