Riverhawks Pile Up Runs in Blowout Win Over Cardinals

WINLOCK — Mason Miller put together an impressive hitting and pitching performance to help Toledo easily cruise past Winlock for a 22-3 road victory in five innings during Central 2B League action on Thursday in Winlock.

Despite playing in Winlock, the Riverhawks were the home team as the game was originally scheduled to be played in Toledo but was moved across Interstate 5 due to the Riverhawks’ field conditions.

It didn’t matter for the Riverhawks smashed 14 hits on the day, led by Miller’s big night at the plate. Miller went 3 for 4 with four RBIs, three runs and a walk to reach base on all four at-bats.

He was aided by three other mult-hit performances by Riverhawk players. Caiden Schultz scored four times and was 2 for 3 with an RBI, while Ryker Sorenson went 2 for 2 with two RBIs, two runs and two walks. Conor Gilreath was 3 for 5 with three runs, two RBIs.

Miller was also solid on the mound as the starter, striking out five while allowing two earned runs on four hits and one walk across three innings. Rogan Stanley and Geoffrey Glass each threw an inning of scoreless relief, with Stanley fanning three batters and Glass one.

Winlock senior starter Mekhi Morlin lasted just ⅔ of an innings, surrendering seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks with one punchout. Kyrin Meehan tossed 1 ⅔ of relief, striking out one while allowing two earned runs on three hits and five walks.

The Cardinals managed just five hits on the day, led by Aiden Eitel going 2 for 3 with an RBI. Morlin and Meehan each were 1 for 3 with an RBI. 

Catcher Chris Heikkila (1 for 3) had the Cardinals’ only other hit and scored once, while Carter Svenson and Liam Groves each scored a run a piece.

Toledo travels to Toutle Lake for a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Monday.

Winlock continues league play when it hosts Rainier in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Tuesday.
