Riverhawks Hold Off Rainier’s Comeback Bid

Holding a 7-2 lead through three innings, Toledo fended off Rainier’s three-run comeback bid in the fourth and fifth to secure a 7-5 road victory in Central 2B League action on Friday.

Notched up at 2-2, the Riverhawks ripped off five runs in the top of the third to take the lead for good behind RBI hits by Kaven Winters and Rayder Stemkoski.

Stemkoski finished 2 for 4 at the plate, while Justin Filla was also 2 for 4 with two runs scored. Geoffrey Glass scored twice and Conor Gilreath, Carson Gould, Caiden Schultz and Winters all drove in runs.

Mason Miller pitched the first four innings for Toledo, striking out two and allowing five earned runs on eight hits and a walk.

Rainier was led offensively by a trio of multi-hit batters. John Kenney was 2 for 3 with two runs, Ryder Cruse was 2 for 3 and Gavin Owen went 2 for 3 with two runs. Ethan Gonzalez collected two RBIs, while Johnny Boesch and Josh Meldrum each drove in one run.

Gonzalez went three innings on the mound, allowing three earned runs with two strikeouts. Hunter Howell tossed the final three, striking out two with one hit and no earned runs.

Rainier hosts Napavine at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Toledo hosts Kalama in a doubleheader starting at 3 p.m. on Monday.
