Riverhawks flip the script in win over Cougars

Through one quarter against Warden on Friday, the Toledo girls basketball team had scored just two points and trailed by nine. In the final frame, the Riverhawks allowed just two points to cap their 40-28 comeback victory, ending their first game in Ellensburg with a win.

“We came out flat in the first quarter,” Toledo coach Randy Wood said. “We changed our defense, and Zaya and Xtyn Norberg were a big part of our defensive pressure.”

That pressure limited Warden to just 17 points in the final three frames, while Toledo got going offensively by putting up 38 in the final 24 minutes.

Kailea Lairson led the Riverhawks with 15 points, while Ryah Stanley added 13. Peyton Holter and Sydney Kruger both added four.

Toledo (5-3) has now won three straight, and the Riverhawks will look to make it four in a row against Coupeville at Central Washington University on Saturday.
