Riverhawks Fall in Cathlamet

After a strong start, the Toledo boys basketball team couldn’t maintain it in a 59-49 loss to Wahkiakum on the road Saturday night.

The Riverhawks got off to an 8-1 spurt to start the game, but the Mules kept Toledo from scoring in bunches, limiting the shots from outside.

“Our guys battled,” Riverhawks coach Grady Fallon said. “That’s a good team. Shots just weren’t falling. We were cold from outside, and you have to earn every bucket, you get no easy buckets against them. You have to play pretty well to beat a team like that on the road. We gave it a good shot.”

Kaven Winters led the Riverhawks with 16 points and Rogan Stanley added 12, but it was an otherwise tough shooting night for Toledo. Meanwhile, the Mules were led by Brodie Avalon’s 13 points, and Zakk Carlson added 11.

The Riverhawks will return home for a matchup against Toutle Lake Wednesday.
