Riverhawks Come Back to Sink Fishermen

The Toledo baseball team found itself down to its final frame Thursday on the coast, but came back to beat Ilwaco 7-6 in a non-league matchup.

The Riverhawks trailed 6-5 going into the seventh, when Caiden Schultz reached on an error to get things started. He then went from first to third on a single by Rogan Stanley, and came home on a wild pitch to tie the game up. Stanley stole second and got to third on the wild pitch, and after Geoffrey Glass walked, Kaven Winters hit a ball to center deep enough to score Stanley on the sacrifice.

With the win in sight, coach Mack Gaul gave the ball to Schultz out of the bullpen, and Toledo’s ace worked around a walk to earn the save.

Stanley gave up all six of Ilwaco’s runs, four of which came in a tough first inning. He finished with six strikeouts, and left in a 6-2 game, giving the ball to Kaven Winters.

Winters settled things down with three shutout frames, striking out four, and as the pitcher when Toledo went on its seventh-inning rally, earned the win.

Schultz singled in his first at-bat and homered in his third, finishing 2 for 4 with three runs scored. Rayder Stemkoski went 2 for 3, and Carson Gould had a double.

Toledo is set to go back to Pacific County on Monday, with a trip to 1B Naselle.
