Riverhawks Come Back to Defeat Cardinals

Trailing by two sets on the road in Winlock, the Toledo volleyball team flipped a switch and manufactured a five-set come-from-behind win (23-25, 15-25, 26-24, 25-15, 15-10) against the Cardinals Friday night in league action.

Stefani Arceo-Hansen continued her strong play, recorded six aces with a team-high eight kills, and Aleena Bloomstrom added three kills of her own on a strong night at the net.

“She was great at the end of each game,” Riverhawks coach Kelli Larson said. “She had an all-around strong game.”

Jordynne Hensley added six aces to round out top contributors from Toledo, who began to turn things around at the onset of the third set before completing stealing away momentum.

“They played cohesively as a team,” Larson said. “They didn't lose their confidence, and played strong throughout the entire match. I’m most proud of that, but the win is also nice.”

For the Cardinals, after getting off to a strong start, it was about mental mistakes in the three sets they lost.

Brianna Ochoa had five kills, Madison Rohman added 11 aces and seven kills, and Charlee Connelly was digging up balls left and right in the back row.

“We started out so strong tonight taking the first two sets,” Cardinals coach Stephanie Styger said. “We were playing our game, really showing the team we are. After that third set we started to get down and beat ourselves.”

Both teams won’t have long to worry about this result, as the rivals will meet again next Tuesday in Toledo.
