Restrictions Lifted on Outdoor Burning in Unincorporated Lewis County

The Lewis County Board of Commissioners and Lewis County Fire Marshal last week lifted burn ban restrictions on outdoor burning for all unincorporated lands within the county.

Effective Thursday, Sept. 30, the burning of natural vegetation was allowed. The burning of any garbage, paper or other refuse is strictly prohibited at all times, as well as any unpermitted burning within incorporated city limits.

The Board of County Commissioners will formally pass a resolution lifting the ban at a meeting Tuesday.

“After careful review of the current and extended weather forecast, the Lewis County Fire Marshal has determined that current weather conditions within Lewis County have improved and will lift the restriction to allow outdoor burning, subject to an open burning application and permit,” a news release from the county read.

Burn permits can be obtained online at www.burnpermit.lewiscountywa.gov or in person at the Lewis County Fire Marshal’s office.

The fire marshal’s office encourages county residents and property owners to be attentive to the conditions of their properties through proactive fire prevention measures, including keeping fire-extinguishing equipment nearby and properly supervising fires.
