Seven local squads were among the crowded field of 12 that made their way to Rainier Elementary School for the Central 2B League Preview on Thursday. The host Mountaineers dominated the day in the girls race, while the boys’ affair was much more even.

Rainier sophomore Bryn Beckmen crossed the finish line in first place in the girls race, covering the 5,000 meters in 22:55.70. In the next minute and a half, three more runners would come in – all Mountaineers. Hailey Tyrrell finished in 23:13.07, Ella Marvin took third at 23:38.46, and Angelica Askey was fourth at 24:05.03. Olivia Osborne rounded out the Mountaineers’ team score with a time of 37:16.50.

Morton-White Pass senior Ayricka Hughes – the only Timberwolf in the race – was the first non-Rainier girl to cross the line, finishing fifth at 24:28.88. Mossyrock’s Joan Wedam was right behind her with a time of 24:41.69, while her teammate Miley Barnes was 18th at 32:14.62.

Candace Clark and Jasmine Kemmerer finished back-to-back for Toledo in 11th and 12th place at 27:39.62 and 27:44.60, respectively.

Adna’s freshman duo of Megan Price and Megan Stout finished nearly within a second of each other, at 29:28.76 and 29:29.70, respectively.

Hannah Wilson finished 19th for Onalaska in 32:48.39.

Over on the boys’ side of things, Toledo’s Treyton Marty dusted the competition, taking first with a time of 18:03.10.

The team crown, however, went to Onalaska, thanks to five runners all stacking top-15 finishes. Senior Ben Russon came across first for the Loggers in seventh (19:05.84). Riley Carter was next with a 10th-place time of 19:37.55, and Conner Blair took 11th in 20:03.47. Isaac Fitch ran the course in 20:04.82 to place 13th, and Cole Russon was 15th at 20:29.18

Mossyrock had back-to-back-to-back runners in the top sixth, with Miguel Gomez (18:44.16) taking fourth, Hugo Wedam (18:47.93) in fifth, and Christian Paz Tapia (18:54.87) placing sixth. Luis Contreras (21:41.19) and Ethan Wedam (22:24.21) were 24th and 25th, respectively, and the Vikings were second out of six teams to post full scores.

Jordan Stout led third-place Adna with a second-place finish in 18:25.88. After him, Kolton Moon was 21st (21:34.77) and Bailey Davis 22nd (21:35.22) right next to each other, while Nathanael Scheuber (23:22.08) was 29th and Zane Powell capped off the team card in 35th (24:18.75).

Morton-White Pass got a top-10 finish from Hunter Bracket, who took eighth place at 19:11.27. Anthony Snyder capped off the top-20 for the T-Wolves in 21:34.53. Max Lowe (23:00.27) and Aiden Kampa (23:00.70) came across the line together, and Keaton Thompson was 30th at 23:42.00.

Rainier freshman Zach Hamilton placed third with a time of 18:32.21. James Meldrum also finished in the top 10 at 19:22.26 to place ninth, and Giacomo Ravelli ran a time of 20:38.16 to place 16th, but without two more runners on the course, the Mountaineers finished without a team score.

Chase Trodahl, representing Winlock by himself Thursday, took 12th place, covering the course in 20:04.68.
