The Rainier baseball team had no answers offensively through five innings against Toutle Lake on Wednesday, but the Mountaineers rallied in the sixth and held on to come away with a 5-3 win.
The Mountaineers had just two hits in the first five innings and trailed 2-0 going into the sixth, but Yazama Gurnsey led off the sixth with a single and scored on the next at-bat when Peyton Sheaffer tripled to left. Sheaffer scored to tie the game on an error in the next AB.
Later in the inning, Blake Fennel hit a two-run double and Wyatt McIntyre brought him home with an RBI single to make it 5-2.
The Ducks were able to get one back in the seventh, but they stranded the bases loaded to end the game.
Hunter Howell pitched a complete game on the mound, allowing six hits and three earned runs while walking six and striking out three.
Kaden Goodman collected two hits in three at-bats, while Sheaffer, Fennel, and McIntyre were credited with RBIs.
Rainier (1-1, 1-1 C2BL) will hit the road on Thursday to play a rescheduled game against Mossyrock.
