Rainier Comes Up Just Short in Cathlamet

Showcasing a new rushing attack, the Rainier football team nearly pulled off a big win on the road, but came up just short in an overtime loss to Wahkiakum in Cathlamet, 36-28, Friday night.

The Mountaineers (0-1) racked up 294 yards on the ground, with Trevor Anderson leading the way with 102 yards and three catches for 12 yards. Making his first start at quarterback for Rainier, Jake Meldrum added 64 yards rushing with two touchdowns, and a 6 for 13 passing line for 53 yards with no interceptions. 

Hunter Howell had 50 rushing yards of his own along with 35 receiving yards on two catches. Jacob Uch and Christopher Grey each also added scores on the ground. 

The Mountaineers will host Toledo next week looking to rebound.
