Planning Commission to Hold Meeting on Packwood Subarea Plan

Posted

The Lewis County Planning Commission will continue discussion of the Packwood Subarea Plan at a meeting at 6 p.m. March 28 at the Lewis County Courthouse in Chehalis.

The public is invited to listen in, but no additional comments or testimony will be taken, according to a news release from the county.

The Packwood Subarea Plan is a vision with goals and policies that will guide and manage growth in Packwood over the next 20 years. The plan does not include development regulations but will provide guidance on specific issues, according to the county.

At a public hearing held March 14 in Packwood, concerns were raised about managing short term rentals (STR). The Planning Commission asked Project Manager Mindy Brooks to develop an STR policy within the subarea plan for them to consider.

There were also requests from property owners to change their land use designations.

The Planning Commission is a citizen advisory group appointed by the Board of Lewis County Commissioners (BOCC) to provide recommendations on a variety of planning and land development proposals.

At the March 28 meeting, the planning commission is expected to finalize its recommendations on the Packwood Subarea Plan and provide them to the BOCC.

The BOCC will formally consider the plan this summer. The public will be able to provide testimony to the BOCC at that time. Notice of the BOCC public hearing will be posted in The Chronicle, the East County Journal and on the county website.
