Pirates Take Out Bulldogs in Final Tuneup

The Adna softball team’s final preparations before postseason play began took them out to Grays Harbor County to play one of the best schools in the 1A ranks, but the Pirates didn’t look much like underdogs, dispatching Montesano 6-2 to end the regular season on an 18-game winning streak.

Adna’s first trip through the lineup was a fruitless one that took three innings, but as soon as the second began, the Pirates got dangerous. Brooklyn Loose led off the top of the fourth with Adna’s first hit of the game, and after the Bulldogs misplayed a Karlee VonMoos bunt to put two runners on, Kendall Humphrey and Ava Simms hit back-to-back doubles to make it 3-1.

The Pirates kept it going in the fourth, 60 feet at a time, with three singles and a walk plating another run and an error making it 5-1. Adna made it 6-1 in the top of the seventh, before the hosts scratched back a meaningless tally in the final frame.

VonMoos and Humphrey had back-to-back two-hit days in the heart of the Adna order, with Simms driving in three runs.

Simms also went the distance in the circle for the Pirates, striking out 10 and allowing five hits and a walk.

As the top seed coming out of the Central 2B League, Adna will get to skip the first day of the district tournament. The Pirates will take the field at Fort Borst Park on Wednesday for their first game, against either the C2BL No. 5 or the P2BL No. 4.
